Mr. Converse has answered the questions below so we may know him better. Thank you, Tom, for your support and dedication to MSPE.
Q: Why did you join MSPE?
A: I joined NSPE/MSPE while I was a college student. Working with engineers during my Co-Operative Education periods, they encouraged me to join organizations such as NSPE, IEEE and electrical industry organizations. I became more active in MSPE during the period leading up to the National Meeting in Boston, and worked on that effort. I have held officer positions since.
Q: What are your goals as an engineer?
A: My goals as an engineer; as with everything in life, are to never stop learning and getting better. I have been in the industry for over 35 years and I continue to learn and be in awe of some of the talented engineers, both younger and senior to me.
Q: Please describe a project that you’re involved with.
A: As part of a small firm, we get involved in many projects. Some of the most interesting are the insurance investigation work we do. When the phone rings you never quite know what set of circumstances you are going to be asked to look at. It is interesting, since it requires us to review codes and standards that we may not have worked with in a while. It helps to keep us fresh on what is happening in codes. In some instances, we need to review the codes that were in place many years ago to consider the installation.
Q: How do you spend your free time?
A: My free time is spent with my family. I have a wife and two daughters. I like to spend as much time at my condominium in Naples Florida, golfing and enjoying the sun and warm weather.
