Team Massachusetts Earns 8th Place at 2017 National MATHCOUNTS Competition
Continuing the Proud History of Top-10 Finishes for Massachusetts, Team Massachusetts continued a winning tradition by placing 8th out of 56 teams at the 2017 National MATHCOUNTS Competition in Orlando, Florida on May 14-15. Led by Coach Joshua Frost of the Clarke Middle School in Lexington, the 2017 team of Middle School students included Ben Epstein of Jonas Clarke School in Lexington, Richard Chen of William Diamond Middle School in Lexington, William Yue of the Pike School in Andover and Eric Yang from the Dover Sherborn Middle School in Dover.
MSPE Board Member John Hayden, PE, Senior Transportation Engineer with Stantec, has served as a MATHCOUNTS volunteer more than 20 years. This is his sixth year as State Coordinator.
While the team placed 8th in the nation, three of the four individual students placed in the top 25% of 224 total competitors, and Ben Epstein placed 16th overall.
MSPE congratulates ALL of the nearly 1,000 students who participated in the MATHCOUNTS program throughout this school year, as well as their coaches and the many volunteers who helped in countless ways. In September, another school year begins; thus, another opportunity to Sponsor and/or Volunteer to support this program. For more information, please contact John Hayden, PE.
