MATHCOUNTS LogoMATHCOUNTS is the nation’s premier Math Enrichment Program & Competition Series that promotes math enrichment for middle school students (grades 6-8). Across the nation, the program is a grass-roots effort with the goal of encouraging young students to pursue careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The MATHCOUNTS season runs from Aug-June each year, with schools ramping up from Aug-Oct. Chapter Competitions are held in February, the State Competition in March, and the National Competition in May.

There are three key MATHCOUNTS programs: The National Math Club, Math Video Challenge, and Competition Series – each designed to engage middle school students with opportunities to use math, build confidence and enhance their appreciation for math.

The MATHCOUNTS Story: She Loves it, He Fears it; A Story of Two Math Students
This brief but powerful story will change the way you think about math. Math students fall into two categories: Those who love it and those who fear it. This story of two students’ journeys reveals how MATHCOUNTS fills a critical void – for our students, and our society. Click here to read this powerful and moving story.

SPONSORS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED:
For Team Massachusetts, only about 1/3 of the funding needed to run the program is provided by the National MATHCOUNTS Foundation. The remaining 2/3 of the funding must come from local organizations such as MSPE, other firms and individuals.
Corporate and individual sponsors are urged to support our state’s 2014-2015 program. Since MATHCOUNTS is funded at the state level solely by local contributions, this vital program continues to rely on tax-deductible donations. Tax-deductible donations of any size are appreciated. (Scroll down to viewHow Program Donations are Used” and links to Volunteer and Donor forms.)

WHY SPONSOR MATHCOUNTS?
In Massachusetts, the program has a proud history. Team Massachusetts placed 3rd in the Nation in 2015; we won the National Competition in 2013, 2012, 1997, and 1999, and MA individuals won titles in 2013, 1998, and 1991. To continue this vital program, we ask for your support. This year, over 900 students representing 121 schools across Massachusetts participated in this vital program.

Students compete in chapter competitions in January and February, leading to the State Competition in March, which determines the teams and individuals that will represent our state at the 2015 National Competition in May.

WHY DOES MATHCOUNTS MATTER?  Because…
… It impacts students and communities at the national level AND at the local level
… It builds the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for success
… It helps kids who love math AND kids who fear math
… It can transform a student’s experience not only in math, but in all other areas of study
And it MATTERS because Massachusetts Students and Schools:
Cannot continue to participate in MATHCOUNTS without local support and donations
Deserve support if we expect them to be our state’s next generation of problem-solvers

MATHCOUNTS Offers Several Types of Programs:

MC_Logos_cmyk7The National Math Club, a component of the overall program, is free to any school or youth group who wishes to participate.

MC_Logos_cmyk11The Math Video Challenge is a way for students to show off their talents in not only Math, but in creating a story and presenting that story as a video.

MC_Logos_cmyk4The Competition Series is the centerpiece of the program. At the School, Chapter, State and National levels, students compete as individuals and as part of 4-student teams. The progressively-challenging competitions culminate at the National Competition, where a single State Team and a single individual are crowned National Champions.
