Kenneth Skinger, PE, Esq. Named to the NSPE Board of Directors; Represents Northeast Region

MSPE Director Kenneth Skinger, PE, Esq., who served as President of MSPE from 2009-2012, as well as Managing Director of the Northeast Region of NSPE since 2012, has been named to the Board of Directors of the National Society of Professional Engineers for 2017-18.  MSPE is grateful to Mr. Skinger for his dedication to our Society and to the engineering profession, and we look forward to his representation of our Northeast Region at the National level.

Here is Why YOU Should Support Massachusetts MATHCOUNTS Math Enrichment Program this Year

Here in Massachusetts, the MATHCOUNTS program is strong – BUT it can only happen if it is supported by volunteers and sponsors.

SOME IMPORTANT KEY STATISTICS:

  • In the history of the competition, only California has won more National Championships.
  • The Massachusetts Team has won the National Competition in 1997, 1999, 2012 and 2013. Massachusetts Individuals have won the Individual Title in 1991, 1998 and in 2013. We look forward to continuing this winning tradition.
  • In 2017, Massachusetts placed 8th out of 56 State Teams and 3 of the 4 Individuals placed in the Top 25% of all 224 competitors.

Call for Papers & Presenters for NSPE NE Regional Meeting, Nov 3-5, 2017

Planning is well underway for the NSPE Northeast Regional Meeting & Conference, to be held at Boston Marriot in Quincy, MA from November 3-7, 2017.  Generally, the event theme is: Energy Transportation and Manufacturing Solutions, and will feature unique professional development sessions and opportunities to network with engineers from throughout the Northeast.

The Planning Committee invites members and their colleagues to consider presenting a professional development topic at this event, and to submit presentation summaries for consideration. Presentations should be at least one hour (for a minimum of 1 PDH/CEU), and preferably be rated for New York State Credits.  For more information about this opportunity, or discuss sponsorship opportunities, please contact Thomas J. Team Massachusetts Earns 8th Place at 2017 National MATHCOUNTS Competition

Continuing the Proud History of Top-10 Finishes for Massachusetts, Team Massachusetts continued a winning tradition by placing 8th out of 56 teams at the 2017 National MATHCOUNTS Competition in Orlando, Florida on May 14-15.  Led by Coach Joshua Frost of the Clarke Middle School in Lexington, the 2017 team of Middle School students included Ben Epstein of Jonas Clarke School in Lexington, Richard Chen of William Diamond Middle School in Lexington, William Yue of the Pike School in Andover and Eric Yang from the Dover Sherborn Middle School in Dover.

Northeast Region NSPE Members Invited to Participate in ‘What NSPE Means to ME’ Contest

Kenneth R. Skinger, PE, Esq., Northeast Regional Delegate for NSPE and Past President of MSPE, invites ALL members of Northeast Societies of NSPE to participate in a contest, “What NSPE Means to Me”. Spence-LoResAfter 48 years in the Boston mechanical and electrical consulting engineering field, MSPE member Michael Spence, PE, Executive Vice President of Bala|TMP Consulting Engineers, has announced his retirement as managing principal, effective this June. He will remain with the firm on a part time consulting basis.

Brightest Young Math Students Win State MATHCOUNTS Competition; National Competition is May 8-9

Our state’s brightest young math students gathered on Saturday, March 5 for the2016 MA State MATHCOUNTS WinnersMassachusetts State MATHCOUNTS Competition, and four of them — two girls and two boys, out of 136 students representing 36 Massachusetts middle schools — emerged as State Champions.  This accomplishment earned each winner a full four-year scholarship to Wentworth University, as well as the coveted opportunity to represent our state at the National MATHCOUNTS Competition on May 7-10 in Washington, DC.
