MSPE Member News & Accomplishments – April 2014
John J. Hayden, PE, Senior Principal Engineer with Fay Spofford and Thorndike, will accompany our state’s MATHCOUNTS winners and their coach on their trip to Orlando, Florida from May 7-10 as they compete in the 2014 National MATHCOUNTS Competition.
Timothy M. Johnson, PE, Associate Professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology, recently wrote this article for the school’s news blog, about the installation of a Bitcoin machine on campus.
Thomas J. Vaughan Jr., PE, President of GSC Engineering and MSPE Treasurer, served as the Vice President of Engineers Week New England for 2014. Tom also attended “Structures Congress 2014” in early April. Tom summarized the event for MSPE Members as follows: “This annual event of the Structural Engineering Institute was held in Boston this year and brought together hundreds of engineers from around the world. I attended lectures that included three areas of special interest to me: blast effects, structures in moderate seismic areas, and wind loads on solar panels. I also helped man a booth for SEAMASS (Structural Engineers Association of MA) and got the opportunity to meet with engineers from other regions, including the structural engineers of the United Kingdom – it seems their engineers have the same issues as we do, regarding getting recognition and respect – so at least we are not alone.”
